Should you convert to an airline?
The break-even is 1c
Flybuys and Everyday Rewards both convert 2:1. Give up $10 off, get 1,000 airline points — so converting only wins if you'll get more than 1c out of each Velocity or Qantas Point.
Flights clear it
Economy reward seats typically return 1–2c a point, business far more. If you'll actually fly with them, converting is worth up to double the $10 off — more in a premium cabin.
Gift cards don't
Airline gift cards and stores return about 0.5c a point. Convert just to buy a gift card and you've halved what your points were worth. Take the $10 off instead.
It's one-way
Neither transfer can be reversed. If you're not sure you'll fly, leave the points where they are — you can always convert later, but you can't convert back.
Points value questions
What are 2,000 Flybuys points worth?
It depends what you redeem them on. As money off at checkout or a Flybuys gift card, $10. On Rewards Store products, usually less — around $6–$10 of goods. Converted to Velocity and spent on an economy flight, $10–$20; on Velocity gift cards, only $5–$5.60.
What are 10,000 Flybuys points worth?
$50 off your shop or as a gift card, $30–$50 in Rewards Store products, or $50–$100 on economy flights once converted to Velocity.
How much are 2,000 Everyday Rewards points worth?
$10 off your shop now, or $10 banked for Christmas. Or 1,000 Qantas Points, which are worth $4–$5 as Qantas gift cards or $10–$20 on an economy flight — so the same 2,000 points can be worth half the $10 or double it.
How much is a Qantas Point worth?
Between 0.4c–0.5c and 3c–7c, depending on how you redeem. Gift cards and the Rewards Store return about 0.4c–0.5c; economy Classic Reward flights about 1c–2c; premium economy and business 3c–7c. So 10,000 Qantas Points is $40–$50 in gift cards or $100–$200 on economy flights.
How much is a Velocity Point worth?
About 0.5c–0.56c as gift cards (a $100 card costs 18,000 to 19,500 points), 1c–2c on economy reward seats and 2c–4c in business. 100,000 Velocity Points is $500–$560 in gift cards or $1,000–$2,000 on economy flights.
Should I convert Flybuys to Velocity?
Only if you'll spend the Velocity Points on flights. The transfer is 2:1, so converting beats the $10 off only when you get more than 1c per Velocity Point. Economy reward seats usually clear that; gift cards (about 0.5c) never do — converting to buy gift cards halves your points' value. Transfers can't be reversed.
Should I convert Everyday Rewards to Qantas?
Same maths as Flybuys: 2,000 points is either $10 off or 1,000 Qantas Points, so Qantas only wins if you'll get more than 1c per Qantas Point. Fly with them and it usually does; spend them on gift cards and you'd have been better taking the $10.
Is Flybuys or Everyday Rewards better?
At the checkout they're identical: both are $10 per 2,000 points (0.5c each), and both convert 2:1 to an airline program. The difference is where you earn — Coles group and partners for Flybuys, Woolworths group and partners for Everyday Rewards — and whether you'd rather fly Virgin (Velocity) or Qantas.
