Should you convert Flybuys to Velocity?

1,000 Flybuys points = 500 Velocity Points, in blocks of 1,000. Transfers can't be reversed. Whether that's a good idea comes down to one number.

The short answer

Is it worth it?

Only if you'll spend them on flights. The transfer is 2:1, so you give up $10 off your shop to get 1,000 Velocity Points. That makes the break-even 1c per Velocity Point — below that you've lost money by converting. Economy reward seats return 1c–2c a point, so converting for economy is worth the same to double the money off depending on the seat you find — at the bottom of that range it's a wash. Business and premium economy return 2c–4c, worth 2 to 4 times the money off, which is the real case for converting. Velocity gift cards and the online store return only 0.5c–0.56c a point — about 50% to 56% of the money off, so converting to buy a gift card destroys value. If you're not flying, take the money off.

Money off is a published fixed rate. Everything reached through Velocity is a range, because what a point returns depends on the seat or item — see the sources below.

The maths

Where the break-even comes from

The break-even is 1c

2:1 means 2,000 points is either $10 off or 1,000 Velocity Points. Converting only wins above 1c per Velocity Point.

Business clears it easily

Premium cabins return 2c–4c a point — 2 to 4 times the money off. Hardest seats to find, but this is where converting pays.

Economy is a coin toss

1c–2c a point. At the top of that range you double your money; at the bottom you've done all that for nothing.

Before you switch

1,000 Flybuys points = 500 Velocity Points, in blocks of 1,000. Transfers can't be reversed.

Common questions

Flybuys to Velocity, answered

How many Velocity Points is 1,000 Flybuys points?

500. The transfer runs at 2:1, so every 2,000 Flybuys points become 1,000 Velocity Points. 1,000 Flybuys points = 500 Velocity Points, in blocks of 1,000. Transfers can't be reversed.

Is it worth converting Flybuys to Velocity?

Only for flights. $50 off your shop is the guaranteed alternative, and converting beats it only if you get more than 1c per Velocity Point. Economy seats return 1c–2c and business 2c–4c, so flights can win. Velocity gift cards return 0.5c–0.56c, so they never do.

Is it better to convert to Velocity or take the money off?

Take the money off unless you have a specific flight in mind. The money off is a fixed 0.5c a point with nothing to arrange; converting is worth the same to double that in economy and 2 to 4 times in business, but only once you actually book a reward seat.

Can I convert Flybuys points to Velocity for gift cards?

You can, but it's the worst thing you can do with them. Velocity gift cards and store items return about 0.5c–0.56c a point, so 10,000 Flybuys points become $25–$28 instead of the $50 you'd get by taking the money off at the checkout.

What are 1,000 Flybuys points worth in Velocity Points?

1,000 Flybuys points convert to 500 Velocity Points. That's $5–$10 on an economy reward seat or $10–$20 in business, against $5 if you keep them as money off your shop.

What are 2,000 Flybuys points worth in Velocity Points?

2,000 Flybuys points convert to 1,000 Velocity Points. That's $10–$20 on an economy reward seat or $20–$40 in business, against $10 if you keep them as money off your shop.

What are 10,000 Flybuys points worth in Velocity Points?

10,000 Flybuys points convert to 5,000 Velocity Points. That's $50–$100 on an economy reward seat or $100–$200 in business, against $50 if you keep them as money off your shop.

What are 50,000 Flybuys points worth in Velocity Points?

50,000 Flybuys points convert to 25,000 Velocity Points. That's $250–$500 on an economy reward seat or $500–$1,000 in business, against $250 if you keep them as money off your shop.

Where these numbers come from. Only some redemptions have a published rate: Flybuys and Everyday Rewards money off, Flybuys gift cards and Bank for Christmas are all 2,000 points = $10. Both airline transfers are 2:1, per each program's own help pages. Everything else — Flybuys Rewards Store products, and anything spent through Qantas or Velocity — has no fixed rate, so those ranges come from independent 2026 valuations. What you actually get depends on the item or seat you pick, and programs can change their pricing at any time. Rates checked 22 October 2026.
